Art has always played a part in my life, but my focus changed dramatically when I moved to Longmont. There exists here a flourishing cultural community that inspires and transforms both my work and my self. As a psychotherapist and traveler on this journey, I am in constant search for the essence of life. Art brings meaning, resonates in my soul, feeds it and gives me peace.
Inspiration for my work is found in the wondrous landscapes of Colorado and New Mexico. These areas are manifestly beautiful and I am in constant awe of the variety, color and mood of the landscape. Coming from the east coast - crowded, noisy and destructive to nature - I’m awestruck by the openness, expanse, beauty and concern for the environment that is exhibited here. The mountains and open plains allow me to breathe in the freedom of air and space - very much what I convey in my art. My work elicits an emotional response from the viewer and is key to my success as an artist.
I have two basic forms, landscapes and abstracts. With both I am an impressionist. I paint what I see and translate it in my own language. Abstract paintings reflect my emotions at the time paint goes to canvas. Moving through other mediums to oils and acrylics was pivotal in my progress - these media speak to me and allow the most wonderful freedom of expression. Color, form and texture are vital, but emotional resonance is key. My focus is not on the technical, but on the lyrical quality of the process - vivid and unusual color compositions and line play delight my eye.
I’m truly blessed to have found a haven for my art and blessed, too, that I’ve found an appreciative audience.
