Laura W. Lass
I grew up in Boulder, Colorado living in this picturesque area enjoying the brilliant sunshine, clear skies, and all the beauty that surrounds me. I worked for IBM and Exabyte as a technical writer for 24 years and have now embarked on a new direction as an artist. I paint with oils and enjoy painting animals, landscapes, flowers, and abstracts. I love using bright, vibrant color in my work.
I’ve always been very left-brained, analytical, and a bit of a perfectionist. In 1996, I decided to take an art class from Cathy Magnifico Powers who was teaching using the techniques from the book, Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain. I’d heard of that book and decided I would give the class a try. Cathy taught me to “see”, to draw using pen and ink, and then to use watercolors, oil pastels, acrylics, and water-based oils.
I started painting with oils in 2002 when I studied with Jake Gaedtke at the Longmont Academy of Art for two years. I’m currently studying with Lani Vlaanderen in Loveland and have taken many other classes and workshops with other artists.
I am a member of the Longmont Council of the Arts, the Longmont Artists’ Guild, the Mountain Valley Art Society, and the Muse Gallery.
