Joe Kuzyk: Photographer

Joe Kuzyk is a local Longmont resident photographer and poet, transplanted from NY to Colorado in 1971. After winning the Times-Call Best Candid Shot for "Rhythm on The River" a spark was ignited. Now as a member of the Muse Gallery he has started to exhibit his work locally.

Using a Nikon 8008 SR camera for his images, his emphasis is on landscapes and flower images using reflections, and backlighting to enhance an expression or feeling. He has always enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and capturing candid expressions of the joy of people, places and simplicity.

An unusual part of his interests is in the collection of bears, images and art relating to Bears and the "Spirit of the Bear". Kuzuk notes, "The universal and diverse images of 'The Bear' connect us to one another, weaving our past, present and future. It is a connection that we make, as a child or an adult, nurtured by our cultures, experiences and perceptions. Our 'Bear' connection may have started by the clutching of a 'Teddy' as a child, or by viewing an artistic expression, or by listening to the mystery of a legend passed from generation to generation. We make the connection through an 'Art of Communication', shared between the adult/child want-to-be in each of us. Our Bear bridges the gap of age and cultures."

Prints are available framed or matted through PCT Environmental. Images are also available through "Photographic Creative Trading". A person receiving his photographs or images solely determines their value by providing or exchanging a work of art of their own with no dollars exchanged. .

His photographs and poems reflect a celebration of life that surrounds us, images that often go unnoticed. If his photographs inspire people to look more closely to the joys that surround them, then they have served their purpose.

      "Beginning"

      They call it a beginning
But it's more of a continuing.

A love inspired by two today
      Of many yesterdays.

      A mystery of birth,
      Without a need to explain.

      A kick in the stomach,
      Without any pain.

A hand you cannot yet reach
      Soon to be,
      To love and teach

      Wait, weight, anticipate
      Plan, dream and concentrate.

      The breath of life whispers.
      Listen.
